Got an X220 core i7 on ebay for about $110. Noticed it ran very hot.
Went to the school of DIY Youtube to study how to add fresh thermal paste before disassembling it to do so. The arctic silver 5 paste on the cpu did help, but not to my satisfaction. Took a risk later to remove the old thermal pad (not paste) on the GPU and replaced it with an IC graphite thermal pad and POOF like magic the temperature went from an average range of about 47C 56C to 37C – 46C range.
A point to note: The graphite pads are not inert like the paste and to make it worse, have zero adhesive property, so I had to add a tiny drop of paste on the GPU to fix it in place. Proper clamping of the heatsink also helps.
Do you prefer Windows 10 or Windows 7?
Theje, is your mic working alright? mine isnt really working for skype… I was wondering if this only my X220, or if they all have that problem…
Lame humor
Can it run csgo 26-30+ fps?
Can't wait to purchase one of these and have a go at turning it into a hackintosh. 8gb ram and an ssd will be more than enough for day to day tasks and light graphic design
hope it can handl games alone like dotaw
last classic thinkpad keyboard in X Series..
got this with 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD and Ericsson WWAN, plus 9 cell battery still holds for 9 Hours online is a beast. trully mobile companion ultraportable laptop.Use the ultrabase dock and you easily can add more storage in DVD bay with caddy. Solid laptop for less than 300$ usd
The i7 model (or any model) doesnt come with a touchscreen. only the x220T has an touchscreen which can be flipped so it will be a full size tablet. also most of the models have the webcam with the ThinkLight build in. The keyboard does actually have a numpad build in by pressin "fn and ScrLK". The powered usb is not usb3.0, only 2.0 (however the i7 model has the usb3.0 on the opposite side of the laptop)
Please tell me will this laptop run Elgato Hd
I have a refurbished ThinkPad x220i (i5-3360M) I bought from eBay about 4 years ago that I use as a spare. I connected it to a 24" monitor on portrait to use Word, read eBooks, etc. I recently added extra 4gb RAM and 512 SSD. I just installed Visual Studio on it and will become my main development laptop for mobile Apps.
I'm about purchase one for $500, an i7 500gb HDD, 256gb ssd, 12gb and Dell DW1515.
It looks like you got the lowest end thinkpad x220. The one without fingerprint scanner, without webcam and low storage capacity.
Have this laptop (I7 16GB Memory 500GB SSD) for 3 years now and it's
still going strong. I use two large batteries for it and achieve up to
10 hours continuous when used moderately. It's built like a tank with a
outer aluminium casing for added protection. With the SSD drive fitted
it's lightning fast with boot up times up to only 10 seconds on Linux
and around 15 seconds on Windows 7 respectively. I do have a few gripes,
though they could be regarded as age related ones to be honest. The
thin piece of plastic just below the Trackpad at the front snaps on one
side, which I have glued back now and then. And the black paint coating
flakes off on the corners/edges so I had touch them up a few times too.
Overall though a very well build and long lasting Laptop all in all.
what if you put windows 10 on it?
I recently purchased an x220 from eBay (i7, 8mb, 160gb ssd, ips) for development purposes (also, I love the last generation keyboards — can't do chicklets). It came with a factory setup, Win 7 Pro, but the mouse pad was very wonky (laggy, etc). That all disappeared once I installed Linux (which I'd always intended to do). Assume this is a driver issue.
Would have liked to keep a Windows partition for legacy purposes, but I'm very happy overall. It's fast, light, powerful enough, cheap (I paid around $240) and the battery life is great. The IPS screen is also fantastic (and there are even better replacements from LG).
Great review Theje!
I purchased this (with Swedish layout keyboard) for 300 dollars. I think no need for the i7 one, dude. This matte screen is fantastic since it's anti-glare! 🙂
Added one more 4 GB RAM stick so the total now is 8 GB.
This thing plays Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 with no problem at all! (except the fan that constantly blows hot air whilst playing)
lol verry good review and entertaining
what about the x230? Would you get the x220 or x230?
Make sure to do a fresh install of windows. Lenovo has been caught with their hands in the consumer data mining cookie jar. I own one of these and I am so glad I got one for under $200 just over a year ago. Windows 7 and 8 runs great but windows 10 makes the computer come to life. I used windows 10 for work purposes so i do not have to worry about privacy. If you have windows 7, 8, or even Linux, this computer can end up being your daily driver.
That's not a powered usb 3 it's powered usb 2.the only version which has usb 3 is the i7 version
Quit talking like a robot.
I've been a daily Thinkpad X220 user for over 3 years now. This review is good, but makes one minor error. It says it has an LED keyboard light "instead" of a webcam. That isn't true. It has both. My Thinkpad X220 (the i7) has been a faithful and reliable companion and it's still plenty powerful for everything except higher end gaming.
giggity😃
what about cs go. how did it work
Nice Video, Thanks a lot
If you want a real tablet, bear in mind that there's also X220t (the actual tablet version) for a little more.
